Let's Talk About Love, Shall We?
Last year's Valentine's Day post was fairly bitter so this year I decided to instead discuss love and murder. How can I not, when it's the only thing that's been on the news lately. What war on Iraq?
I think this article about a woman who hacked her lover to death during sex games is one of the weirdest I've ever read. This woman hacked her boyfriend 20 times in the head with an axe and she got 5 years in jail?? Then the judge reduced it to 3 1/2 because she said he had threatened her? He accepted the word of a woman who brutally killed someone who was tied up and blindfolded?? You know, Western Europeans like to scream about the human rights violations of the American legal system but could it be that they think ours is harsh because theirs is a fucking joke?? At least I know where to move to now if I ever need to hack someone to death. Note: Don't come with me if I invite you to Great Britain and my check-in luggage includes an axe.
On the other side of the women-who-slay coin is Clara Harris, the woman who ran her husband over after catching him at a hotel with his mistress. I feel sorry for her because I think since she's in Texas she's going to be serving a whole lot more time than she should be. Let's review the facts:
Fact #1: Her husband had promised her he was going to stop cheating on her but then he didn't.
Fact #2: He made up a list of pros and cons of each woman (nitpicking and laughing about his wife's faults) and encouraged his wife to get liposuction for him, which she did in a sad bid to keep him.
Fact #3: She catches him coming out of the hotel elevator all wrapped up in his whore. She lunges at the woman who has been fucking her husband and her own husband pushes her to the floor in defense of that other woman. PUSHES HER TO THE FLOOR IN PUBLIC and in front of people in defense of his whore.
Give ME the fucking car keys. If I had been there I would have been like "Yo Clara... REVERSE!!!!! You missed a spot."
Okay okay. I know his actions don't justify his death at all. AT ALL. But his infidelity is not why I think this case is very grey area. People cheat all the time and the people who are cheated should just be strong people and get over it. They should realize there are people out there who will love them more and treat them much better. But many people are weak. The thing with Clara Harris is, she didn't go to the hotel with the intention of killing him so it wasn't premeditated. The investigator called her and told her where her husband was and what he was doing. She didn't go over to the hotel with a weapon. And she brought his daughter with her for God's sake. What person planning to commit murder brings the intended victim's daughter along for the ride? I think after everything Clara Harris went through with her husband she just saw red and snapped. She was probably just like "OH NO YOU FUCKING DIDN'T!!!!!!!!!!!" Everyone seems to be making a big deal about the fact that she may or may not have ran him over multiple times. But I watched the videotape and she was doing 360s...everything happened in a matter of seconds. It's not like she ran him over, waited a few minutes to see if he would get up, saw him move and then floored it again.
DON'T GET ME WRONG, I think she did commit murder and she should do some time. I just don't think she should get life in prison or even anything higher than 15-20 years. I mean come on... if the "Preppie Killer" only served 15 years for methodically strangling some chic he met at a bar to death, Clara Harris shouldn't serve life in prison. If she had brought a gun to the hotel then I'd be the first person to say "strap her in and flick the switch." If she even brought a knife to the hotel I'd be like "fry her... is that sponge wet enough?" If she poisoned him... you get the point. I don't think it was her intention to kill him though, I think she just wanted to hurt them. She should do time for that, but life in prison is too much, just like no jail time at all would be too little. Even the victim's parents don't think she should be punished at all (how weird is that... imagine being such a scumbag that your own parents don't want to see your killer punished).
Incidentally, the victim's daughter has tried to commit suicide since then, according to the testimony she gave at the sentencing hearing. I wonder if people realize that her sorrow is probably compounded by enormous amounts of guilt, whether she realizes it or not. Her stepmother aimed the car at her father and floored the pedal... and this girl did nothing. She just watched it happen over and over again from the passenger seat. Her father would probably still be alive if his daughter had grabbed the wheel and turned it. Whether because she was in shock or maybe she's just slow, the daughter did nada and had to watch her father die. If that were me I'd be traumatized as hell. If I had a stepmother and she was trying to run over my father I'd grab the wheel then kick her head into the window. "WOMAN ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY????" Then again maybe some people just react slowly. I was walking in midtown once and a crowd of people were staring in morbid fascination at a baby bird that was about to get crushed by a taxicab when the light turned green. Everyone was freaked out but I'm the only moron who ran onto Madison Avenue and scooped up this tiny bird. What would my epitaph have said... "Here lies Riss...She ran out into the street to save a baby bird and got hit by a bus. What a fucking idiot."
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
