Turning 28

Turning 28

My friend Paul asked me how it felt to be "one year closer to grey hair, sagging breasts and hemmorhoids." To be honest, it feels pretty damn good. So far my late twenties rock. But Paul you're an ass demon anyway. Since we're being honest.

So I was on Kat's blog the other day, and she had a post which chronicled her last ten years and it reminded me that I filled out one of those once too, which I got via mass e-mail and sent to a bunch of strangers. So to celebrate my now being two years away from the big 30, I dug it up and made it current since I got it a few years ago (I erased some stuff... you don't really want to know what I was doing 14 years ago in high school do you):

    10 Years Ago, I...
Lived with my parents in Los Angeles, while waiting for my sophomore year at UC Santa Cruz to start.
Partied every night with UCLA students on break and Filipino college students from around the country that I met on IRC.
    Listened to mainly hip-hop.
Worked 14-hour days at three different Rampage stores throughout West L.A.
Slept about four hours a night.

    5 Years Ago, I...
Worked for the National Basketball Association as a Public Relations Assistant.
Commuted 3 1/2 hours a day to NYC and worked 70+ hours a week for very little money.
Traveled cross-country for work too much and hated it.
Was recently married and living in Nutley, New Jersey.
Slept about four hours a night.

    4 Years Ago, I...
Quit my job at the NBA where I was (by then) working 100+ hours each week for little money and even less appreciation.
Went on a traveling spree that started in Washington D.C. and ended with two months in the Philippines, by way of Minnesota, LA, the Bay Area, Vegas and a night in Japan partying with some crazy Marines.
Still drank a whole damn lot.
Made a painfully difficult decision that I felt was best.

    3 Years Ago, I...
Worked for Datek Online as a Public Relations Manager.
Moved to Jersey City to cut my commute in half.
Paid a lot of rent for an apartment Geo and I both loved.
Hung out in Los Angeles and San Francisco every few months to see my family and friends.

    2 Years Ago, I...
Adopted my cute but psychotic, homosexual dog Bailey.
Played "Text Twist" a lot at the office because our company was being bought out.
Had fun getting buzzed at lunch then coming back to the office and writing about it on here.
Started wondering why I didn't care that my career had just been thrown a curve ball.
Realized it was because I didn't care about any job with any company, what I really wanted was to have kids of my own.

    A Year Ago, I...
Was released from the hospital, where I spent 6 weeks hooked up to an IV while trying to keep my identical twin girls from being born too early.
Got yelled at by Geo a lot for trying to do too much after they cut a hole in my stomach and pulled two miniature people from it.
Visited my new daughters every day they were in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Slept a total of one hour each night or morning, after they came home from the hospital.
Knew that the very best part of my life was starting.

    This Year, I...
Heard my daughters say their first words.
Watched my daughters take their first steps.
Thanked God every night for their existence, and George's, and our families'.
Fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow a lot, from sheer exhaustion.

    Yesterday, I...
Cleaned up after our weekend birthday gala.
Edited some material for the book I'm writing.
Spoke to my sister Leah in L.A. on the phone for an hour and laughed the whole time.
Re-read Confessions Of An Ugly Stepsister.
Printed up pictures for my girls' scrapbook.

    Today, I...
Rode my exercise bike because I want to wear a particularly fitted dress on Saturday for Geo's cousin's wedding.
Totally negated the whole bike ride by eating deep-fried Chinese food for dinner.
Had a belated birthday celebration with Geo's parents, who came home from San Diego this afternoon.
Hung out with my friends Dennis and Kathy and their beautiful daughter Tatiana, who I hadn't seen in over a year.
Re-read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for the 28th time.

    Tomorrow I will...

Do the same thing I do every day Pinky... Try and take over the world.
