This child abuse case is sad as hell. This woman had 11 official complaints against her ranging from suspicious wounds, burns and claims that the kids were covered in urine and feces. But they were all dismissed as "unsubstantiated." I can understand a few vague complaints being labeled "unsubstantiated" but 11 highly specific ones? I mean, at least the fact that the kids weren't enrolled in any school should have triggered warning bells right? Shouldn't that be the first thing child services checks? I mean I understand that these case workers are overworked but even if you have 100 cases it shouldn't take more than a week to find out if and where they go to school. I assume these people have access to the phone numbers of schools. It just seems weird to me that when someone gets 11 complaints regarding child abuse, that they don't even bother to check if the kids are going to school. I know that kids are going to slip through "the system." It's just a sad fact that the number of people abusing kids far outnumber the capabilities of the services set in place to protect them. But I naively would have liked to think that the ones slipping through were the ones who seemed to live normal lives, not the ones locked up like animals in some basement, covered in their own excretions and starving to death.

Some guy in Vegas tried to go on a shooting spree because he can't find a job. I wonder if he survived the police takedown. I'm sure some liberal defense lawyer will get him off with a few years, I mean he only killed one person. And our jails are crowded enough. And the economy really is bad. And he was molested as a child. I wonder if eventually the "has no job" excuse for crime will generate as much sympathy as "abused as a child." Because if it does then I might be able to really milk this unemployment thing. Next time I carjack some guy in a Ferrari because I'm mad that I only have a bus pass, I'll point out my current jobless situation and yell about how THE MAN effected my early withdrawal from my company. Maybe I'll even get to keep the Ferrari. Speaking of unemployment, I hope this bill to extend benefits doesn't apply to me. The last thing I need is a reason to be even lazier to find a job. That's like giving a pothead an excuse to fire up a blunt.

Looks like Lani still has a shot if Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are vacillating off the whole Valentine nuptials thing. Speaking of Lani and her goal of marrying Ben Affleck, I really should update my Top 10 guys and girls lists. It's changed drastically in the last 3 years since I created it. Okay the list is done. I only fixed the guys though. The chicas require too much thought right now. So I'm watching that WB show Birds of Prey. I've seen it about 5 times and it just gets worse everytime I see it but there's nothing good on Wednesday nights. Fuck. This show is SO BAD. They bit off some Gladiator-theme that Star Trek Voyager already did perfectly on prime time television with Seven-of-Nine. And the fight scenes are so awful you almost feel pity for the actresses. What deaf, dumb and blind person did the casting for this show? Is there some sort of affirmative action program for mentally challenged people at the WB?? Usually I don't subject myself to the torment of Birds of Prey but after last night's extremely riveting hour of 24 I'm television-hungry. 24 is such a good show. I lose count of how many times I say "Oh...my...GOD" on Tuesdays from 9-10 p.m. Buffy sucks ass this season -- it's like Joss Whedon and all the writers just gave up once Sarah Michelle Gellar said she wasn't coming back. Smart move. The show is a sinking ship, but I could just be bitter that they made Spike idiotically insane this season. And those "potential slayers" are annoying as hell, the only decent one is the lesbian chic that digs Willow. I lost count of how many times I yelled "Shut the fuck up you dumb ass cunt" at the TV yesterday. Probably about 18 times during Buffy (pretty much everytime any of the wannabe slayers spoke) and every time Dumb CTU Bitch and Dumb Oval Office Bitch spoke during 24. Okay I'm done.

I like this house but who the hell would pay $3.5 million to live in the Miracle Mile District?? Someone with a vacation house in Compton?
