Pissed Off
I just read this article which sheds more light on what happened in that brawl between Pi Alpha Phi and Lambda Phi Epsilon at San Jo State that left one guy dead. It's so fucking sad that these people involved took organizations that were started with such good intentions and turned it into this nightmare. But they often say that the road to ruin is paved with the best intentions. So the two organizations at San Jo have been shut down and who knows whether the Pi Alpha Phis at my college (UC Santa Cruz) will be shut down for their involvement as well. My experience with the Asian Greek system in the Bay Area was the very best of my college years. The PA Phis at Santa Cruz were my boyz in college, some of my best friends. A lot of them still are. We chartered our chapters of our respective organizations at the same time, so I know firsthand a lot of what they went through to establish themselves. I was also friends with a lot of the older PA Phis and Lambdas at San Jo State. It really really sucks that everything they worked for might be going down the tubes because their later classes turned their fraternities into wannabe gangs. This gives all Asian Greek organizations a bad name, one they don't deserve. We all started our organizations with the same intentions; to form bonds that would withstand the test of time while promoting Asian Awareness to a lot of communities that sadly needed it. A lot of the guys who started these fraternities at Santa Cruz and San Jo State are some of the best I have ever, ever known. I can't believe that all the blood, sweat and tears that went into the realization of their goals has been threatened by people who never understood what their organizations stood for. What makes me feel guilty is that I agree that the organizations should be shut down, if this is where they were headed. You'll never be able to convince me that their respective Cabinets weren't aware of the impending brawl. When one person takes a shit in the AGS, everyone else knows it. The guys I knew back in the day would have never resolved their differences like this, with knives and violence. The whole situation blows. My prayers are with the family of the student who died. I just wish they knew that it was never the intention of the people who created these organizations that it ever be like this.
