So I'm watching our Marines (on "real-time" war tv) trying to pick out soldiers from civilians because some of the Iraqi soldiers are wearing civilian clothes. So these Iraqi soldiers with machine guns are going to be firing at our soldiers and possibly dying and then you know the fucking liberal media will run all over the place with the "horrible Iraqi civilian death toll" blah blah blah. Like that bullshit they pulled about American soldiers deliberately bombing mosques when in reality the Taliban troops were hiding ammo and tanks in them. Bite me bite me bite me. I'll be honest. Sometimes it bothers me that we're bound by law of civility our enemies never are, simply because we're the stronger war power. They're executing soldiers they've already captured and flaunting the degradation of American POWS all over Arabic television, but you'll never see the U.S. doing the same thing to their POWs. The U.S. needs to stop being so fucking polite.

My favorite is watching all the anti-war protestors. I love watching them hold up signs like "No more blood for oil" then get into their SUVs and drive half a mile home. All kidding aside however, I'm getting pretty fed up with people over-simplifying things to the level of this war being solely about oil. Get off the fucking bandwagon. Stop spouting slogans you haven't really thought about. Yes, it's partly about oil. Someone as cynical as me would never say otherwise. But do some research (even just a little) and then come back with something intelligent. Counter the points others make about the necessity of this war. Counter the people who say that it is necessary to remove Saddam Hussein from his position of power in such a volatile region. Counter the people who believe that Hussein's funding of terrorist organizations and his refusals to come clean with UN weapons inspectors led us to this place. Counter the Iraqi people who don't want to be under Saddam's rule any longer. Counter the people who point out that although we import 48% of our oil consumption, Canada and Mexico supply approximately half of that 48%. Counter the people that point out that there are other large reserves in West African nations friendly with and willing to do business with the U.S. Counter all those arguments with salient arguments of your own and leave the "blah blah blood for oil" bullshit posters at home where you can use them to paper train your puppy.

I feel beholden (now that I'm in a better mood) to continue on further. It's not the protest that annoy me. I think that's part of what makes this country so awesome, the fact that people can be so public and loud with their displeasure for government/presidential/whatever actions. What annoys me are the sheep. From both sides. The anti-war sheep who have no idea what they're chanting about and who CAN OFFER NO SOLUTIONS OR ALTERNATIVES TO WAR and the pro-war sheep who have no idea why they should support military action in Iraq. You don't have to state bullshit statistics or quote literature from antiwar.com, or start in with some dissertation on the history of Iraq. Most of us don't care because we realize that statistics and "facts" and "history" can all be manipulated to support either side. But at least HAVE AN IDEA why you're waving that sign around before you scream in my face. That's all I ask.

And for the people who deep down really do believe this war is about oil and oil ONLY, take a good look in the mirror and see if you're being a hypocrite. Do you own a car? Do you drive to places you can walk to? Do you carpool? Do you meet your friends at restaurants so that 8 of you drove up in 8 different cars? Are you in an SUV? Ask yourself if you contributed to our ridiculous dependence on oil. Because if you did and you're waving that "No Blood For Oil" sign around, you're what we like to refer to as "a hypocrite."
